The Snowflake Man - First pictures of snow crystals

Wilson Alwyn Bentley (1865 – 1931) Frustrated with being unable to view snowflakes under his microscope Bentley devised his own methods to capture images of the snow crystals (1905-1910). He is said to have photographed over 5000 snowflakes.
